The Assistant Controller position oversees all Accounting, HR, Legal, and Operations functions for the (2) above-named Companies. We are looking for a motivated and experienced Accounting Professional to work closely with the CFO to handle all financial, accounting and some human resources activities. This role will assist CFO by supplying accurate financial data on a daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for budget management, financial analysis, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and financial reporting.  Key areas within the Human Resources function will also be managed by the Controller, including employee benefits, 401(k) administration, and employee onboarding.

Opportunity located in Philadelphia, PA, with an occasional requirement to attend meetings in Conshohocken, PA offices. 

Controller Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Manage all aspects of accounting; billing, financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, tax compliance, revenue recognition, and various special analyses 

  • Oversee payments of all vendors; ensuring all vendors are paid on time 

  • Process accounts receivable and collecting payments 

  • Prepare client invoices based on Statements of Work (SOW) and monthly time reports 

  • Prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, daily cash management 

  • Participate in the development of and support the company’s strategic plans  

  • Developing and monitoring financial and business performance metrics  

  • Provide leadership and oversight of department  

  • Manage the preparation of semi-monthly payroll for employees  

  • Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements 

  • Assist CFO in budgeting process  

  • Oversee and participate in the daily accounting activities required to maintain the company's general ledger 

  • Perform tasks associated with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis 

  • Ensure completion and review of all post-close reconciliations; ensure all balances are properly supported and documented 

  • Maintain detailed records and files to document financial transactions and all journal entries 

  • Provide comprehensive financial updates to senior management by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting appropriate data points 

  • Collaborate with team members to support overall department goals and objectives 

  • Define, benchmark and implement operational best practices 

  • Advise on financial analyses and decision-making regarding capital investments, pricing, contract negotiations, significant costs, benchmarks, and other matters with management and CFO 

  • Evaluate department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy; recommend and implement techniques to improve the company’s productivity and increase efficiencies 

  • Willingness to act on items beyond formal job responsibilities, as needed. 

 

Qualifications and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related discipline  

  • Minimum 5 years accounting experience, including at least 3 years of public accounting experience  

  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and work independently with little supervision 

  • Strong work ethic 

  • Working knowledge of Accounting software (specifically Quickbooks) 

  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask 

  • Keeping up-to-date and adherence to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) 

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written and communication skills  

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, and ability to compile and analyze data from multiple systems 

  • Ability to handle information in a confidential, objective and professional manner 

  • Impeccable analytical and organizational skills  

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) required
